Markita Jo Thompson, a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and cherished member of her community, passed away on May 14, 2026, in Memphis, Tennessee. Born on November 15, 1956, in Kennett, Missouri, Markita lived a life marked by dedication, kindness, and a steadfast sense of purpose.

A proud graduate of Senath-Hornersville High School in the Class of 1974, Markita went on to earn her bachelor's degree in social work from Arkansas State University. With a commitment to service deeply ingrained in her spirit, she devoted many years to working as a Parole & Probation Officer. Through her career, she touched countless lives, offering guidance and support to those in need.

On June 25, 2007, Markita was united in marriage to Bill Thompson on Tybee Island, Georgia. Their partnership was one of mutual love and respect, shared in their home in Wilson, Arkansas.

Markita's warmth extended beyond her professional life into her personal passions. She was a gifted cook and baker, renowned among her neighbors for her generosity, frequently sharing pecan pies that delighted friends and neighbors alike. Her nurturing nature was evident in her green thumb, as she lovingly planted and tended to flowers, transforming her surroundings with beauty. A devoted animal lover, she shared a special bond with cats, particularly her favorite companion, Honey Baby. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life; she was deeply involved with her church and held to a strong, enduring spiritual conviction.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Bill Thompson of Wilson, Arkansas; her son, Paul Kuntze, and granddaughter, Katie Beth Kuntze, both of Cartersville, Illinois; her sister, Mary Williams, and her husband, David, of Paragould, Arkansas; and her sister-in-law, Connie Hodge, and her husband, Larry, also of Wilson, Arkansas. Additionally, her extended family includes Connie and Larry's children: Lindsay Brink and her husband Ryan of Washington, D.C., and Chris Hodge of Memphis, Tennessee, along with his children, Walker and Lexi Hodge.

Markita was preceded in death by her parents, John Mark Chandler and Margie Creed Chandler; her grandparents, Hillas and Lottie Creed, and J. P. and Maebelle Chandler; her sister, Charlotte Ann Chandler; her brother, Fred Chandler; and her niece, Misty Edmonston.

Markita Jo Thompson's legacy is one of compassion, unwavering faith, and quiet strength. Her generous spirit touched the lives of all who knew her, and her dedication to family, friends, and community will be remembered with deep affection and respect. She leaves behind a circle of loved ones who will carry her memory in their hearts forever.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 18, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Wilson Methodist Church in Wilson, Arkansas with Pastor Gary Yarbrough officiating.  Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. and continue until the time of service.  Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kennett.
