Josephine Marie Piggee (Simmons), daughter of the late Rose Moore and Edward Simmons, was born on Thursday, October 1, 1942, in Newport, Arkansas and departed this life on Thursday October 3, 2024, at the age of 82 years and 2 days. Josephine enjoyed gardening, cooking (anything she touched was chefs kiss), listening to her music, and most of all joking around and spending time with her family. She will be remembered most for her beautiful smile, her big heart, her wonderful cooking, and her contagious spirit. Josephine is survived by her five sons; Sylvester “Jr” Artis; Robert Lee Simmons, Odell Simmons, Gerald “Jerome” Artis, Lewis Howard of Kennett, Missouri, two daughters; JoAnn Jackson (Artis) of Marianna, AR, Odessa “BaBa” Hudson (Artis) of Jonesboro, Arkansas, three brothers; Nathaniel Simmons of Batesville, AR, John Henry Simmons of AR, William Terry Simmons of Newport, AR, two sisters; Dorothy Gist (Simmons) of Jonesboro, AR, Elle Ellis, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Rose Simmons (Moore), siblings; Willie Simmons, Robert James Simmons, Mary Graves (Simmons), Bobby Simmons, Leopal Rowe (Simmons), Rosetta Simmons, three grandchildren; Jamie Childress, Jermaine Jackson, and Shundreika Artis. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Chapel in Kennett. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. and continue until the time of service. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Kennett. Powell Funeral & Cremation Services, Kennett is in charge of arrangements.
