Joe Keene, son of the late Harold and Lucille Keene, was born on Sunday, July 10, 1938, in Clinton, KY and departed this life on Monday, February 3, 2025, at NHC of Kennett at the age of 86 years 6 months 24 days. Joe Keene was a man of many talents. He was a musician, songwriter, recording artist, record producer, novelist, radio broadcaster, softball coach and pitching instructor. He grew up in New Madrid, Missouri and began his career in music as a performer with his own band in October 1956, retiring as a performer and recording artist on May 9, 1987. He built Kennett Sound Studios, Inc. in 1971 and served as its president and chief engineer through December 31, 1977. As a record producer, he has produced hundreds of recordings for both aspiring artists and nationally known performers. As a radio broadcaster, he was twice honored by WSM radio in Nashville as "Mr. D. J. USA". On February 26, 1978, he was united in marriage to Donna Hines. She preceded him in death on April 22, 2019. Survivors include two sons, Scott Keene of Long Beach, CA, Kelly Keene of Nashville, TN; daughter, Kelly McKuin (Larry) of Kennett; brother, Johnie Keene (Brenda) of Fruitland, MO; grandchildren, Jake McKuin (Erica) of Kennett, MO, Jenna McKuin Wolff (Cody) of Ward, AR, Preston Keene of Nashville, TN; great-grandson, Easton Wolff of Ward, AR; nephews & nieces, John D. Keene & Emilee Keene, Marvin (Sandy) Keene, Veronica & Logan, David (Jennifer) Brawley, Virginia (Payne) Poland, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Donna and his siblings, Eddie Keene, Marvin Keene, Ginger Keene. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Chapel in Kennett. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. and continue until the time of service. Powell Funeral & Cremation Services, Kennett is in charge of arrangements.
