James McFarland, son of the late James Nathan McFarland and Mary Catherine Taylor McFarland, was born on Wednesday, June 6, 1956, in Searcy, AR and departed this life on Monday, January 9, 2023, at Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott at the age of 66 years, 7 months and 3 days. James McFarland was a local radio announcer known by his radio name, Steve Tyler. He was a graduate of Williams Baptist College in Walnut Ridge, AR and Arkansas State University. While a student in college he worked at KXJK in Forrest City, AR, then at KFIN in Jonesboro followed by KHLS in Blytheville and finally, KTMO The Wolf in Kennett. If you knew Steve, you knew he loved everything cowboy. He loved old westerns and was rarely seen without his cowboy hat. Survivors include cousins, Janice Tucker of Cotton Plant, AR, Pam McMurtry of St. Louis, Allan Taylor of St. Louis, Dwight Peebles of Augusta, AR, Ronnie Taylor, Dewayne Taylor & Angie Taylor, all of Texas, Priscilla, Debbie, & Robin, all of Lake of the Ozark, MO, Tony Pasley of Des Arc, AR, Larry Pasley of Alexandria, LA; special friend, Lori Telgen of Kennett, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Nathan McFarland and Mary Catherine Taylor McFarland. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2023, 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Chapel in Kennett. Powell Funeral & Cremation Services, Kennett is in charge of arrangements.
