Edward Oneil Lamar

December 27, 1947 — October 28, 2025

Caruthersville, Missouri

Edward Oneil Lamar, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2025, at the NHC of Kennett. He was born on December 27,1947, in Brinkley, Arkansas, and was a proud U.S. Army veteran who served as a Specialist E-4 in the 101st Screaming Eagles during the Vietnam War. During his service, Edward was honored with several medals, including the Bronze Star and Sharpshooter, and he bravely faced the challenges of being 100% disabled due to Agent Orange, which he endured with resilience.

After his discharge from the Army, Edward returned with his family to Missouri, where he began a long and dedicated career at The Caruthersville Shipyard, where he worked for over 21 years. Following his tenure at the shipyard, he transitioned into the role of a used car salesman, a position he held with enthusiasm and determination.

Edward's personality was characterized by his love for family and the outdoors. He enjoyed numerous activities including hunting, fishing, and spending time with his beloved UKC coon hounds, with whom he won many tournaments. His passion for teaching others about hunting was a reflection of his generous spirit. Edward found joy in playing pitch and was known to enjoy a good cup of coffee while watching westerns and boxing on television. His love for nature took him on many drives around Black Island, where he savored the beauty of the world around him. In his younger years, he also found thrill and excitement in riding motorcycles and ATVs.

Edward is survived by his cherished wife, Donna Kaye (Smith) Lamar, whom he married on December 15, 1967. He is also survived by his loving daughters, Vonda (Lamar) and husband Dale Hall of Caruthersville, MO, and Nikki (Lamar) and Ronnie Moore of Cabot, Arkansas. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Samantha (Lamar) and Mike Carter of Paragould, Arkansas, Noah Lamar of Caruthersville, Missouri, Ally Hall of Caruthersville, and Matthew Hall of Caruthersville. He was a proud great-grandfather to Jace and Carter Gonzales.

Edward is also survived by his sister, Patricia "Patsy" Mae Lunsford, and his brother, Greg Lamar, both of whom he shared a close relationship with throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Edward "Eddie" Oneil Lamar, Jr., as well as his parents, Benny Edward Lamar and Della Henley Lamar, and his beloved grandmother, Bertha.

Throughout his life, Edward wore many hats: a friend, brother, uncle, and cousin. However, his most cherished roles were that of a loving husband, an adoring father, and an amazing papa. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and he will be greatly missed. As we remember Edward, we take solace in knowing he has been reunited with his son and past loved ones, likely enjoying the activities he cherished—hunting, fishing, and card games—in a place free of earthly struggles.

There are no services planned at this time.
