Chester "Sambo" Smith

Chester Ray "Sambo" Smith, son of the late Chester Andrew Smith and Alice Sanders Smith, was born on Wednesday, February 20, 1957, in Hayti and departed this life on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at Pemiscot Memorial Health Systems in Hayti at the age of 66 years 11 months 17 days. On November 29, 1990, in Wardell, MO he was united in marriage to Sally Rudd. Survivors include his wife, Sally Rudd Smith; a daughter, Brittany Smith of Carbondale, IL; a son, Lonzo Smith of Bragg City, MO; mother-in-law, Barbara Ragan of Hayti; two brothers-in-law, Dennis Rudd, Matthew Rudd; two sisters-in-law, Peggy Strange, Rebecca Rudd, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Lonzo Arant; grandmother, Dessie Biggs; father-in-law, J. W. Rudd and two uncles, J. C. Harrington & Randall Rudd. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 12, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Powell Funeral Chapel in Kennett. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. and continue until the time of service. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Hayti. Powell Funeral & Cremation Services, Kennett is in charge of arrangements.
